Traditional MUD NPCs are glorified vending machines. They say the same lines, give the same quests, and forget you exist the moment you walk away.
MUD AI changes that. NPCs hold persistent memory of past interactions. If you helped the blacksmith last week, she remembers. If you robbed the tavern keeper, he won't be friendly next time you walk in.
